Lighting schemes are transformative!

The bathroom is an important place to see but it can also create a mood. Improve mirror lighting to be even & directed at the face with new side lighting. Consider sconces or recess lighting near the tub & shower area to add character. Add a dimmer to easily set your mood day & night. Lighting is the first step in transforming your bathroom!

If you're looking to add a nice, cool little 'dark' effect, like some modern bathrooms have, you may consider getting dimmer lights, that still reflect enough light into the room but are not bright enough to give you a flashing headache or eye strain – especially when you have to get up from bed, at 3am, to simply use the restroom, & don't want 'super bright lights' waking you or your significant other up…in the middle of the night. Think about it. LED lights work tremendously, & they are not only eco-friendly & energy-efficient, but also not too expensive to get.

Or save money & make an even bigger investment. Put in 'clap lights'. You've heard of how these work, most likely. Command your 'on & off' with a clap.

Think you have a small bathroom at home? Have you flown lately?

On a Boeing 747-MAX bathrooms are as small as 24 inches wide, & must accommodate over 200 passengers per flight. If you consider using the facilities a basic human right then to use a facility in such confined spaces can feel like torture. However space is limited to the size of the aircraft making the space seem unfairly small.

While you may have a luxurious amount of bathroom space at home compared to a 747, having the opportunity to remodel your own bathroom at home or an office space washroom the first step you take is have a plan with the old & new layouts before the work begins. At work it could be something as simple as additional accessibility for office staff use. How many stalls are required, how much staff you have or the how the bathroom's look fits your corporate culture can be factors for a worksite restroom. At home selections are more along the lines of bath or shower, toilet type, mirrors, what type of sink or vanity versus pedestal.

Speaking of Plumbing, unless that is something you do for a living it may be best to leave the plumbing where it is & work around it to save costs. Some relocation of utilities like a larger septic tank or leach field can cost $5000 & up.

A small but absolutely necessary everyday fixture, the toilet! If it is in good shape, perhaps you could consider just changing the seat & lid to match the design of your bathroom. Doing this could save you money, rather than throwing out the entire unit. Another great tip is to keep your eye on antique stores for a basket or shelf to put all your bathroom goodies & hand towels. Does your mirror have a frame? A mirror frame can hide the flaking that can happen around the edges of plate mirrors due to moisture.

Just because it's a bathroom, don't assume you have to use tiles, you could consider wood panels, bead board or board & batten. Something that matches your home or business style. Some business locations may benefit from open shelving, giving the ability to show off & allow customers to use product if that is something possible, such as in a salon. Last of all don't forget to let some light in to brighten the room & give it final touch.

Do I need to pull a permit to remodel my bathroom?

Depending on the nature of your remodel, it may not be necessary to get a permit. If the remodel is mostly visual & does not add or remove structural components (e.g. walls, doors, windows, etc), electrical work, or plumbing, then a permit is probably not required.

    What is an infinity shower?

Infinity showers are showeres equipped with linear drain systems, or the brand name Infinity Drain. Linear drains have the shower floor pitched slightly, & the drain runs along the side of the shower. The eliminates the need to cut a hole in the center of the shower floor, which improves the possible options for the floor material & size.
