Wondering if we can assist you with your wood deck replacement? Call our team to explain your deck repair project goals!

When repairing the front or back yard wood deck, & pulling out any nails from the inside of the wood, it is always best to have a Cat's Paw type of tool. It is entirely designed, from the very get-go, to do this sort of thing. It is a nail-puller, by nature, & one of the best a handyman can have. First, dig right into the wood with it, going in deep, with the goal of pulling out that nail head first, after you've spotted it. However, if you wish to keep that same piece of wood & re-use it later on, do not use a Cat's Paw as it will effectively mar all wood surrounding the place of the nail, making it ineffective.

When deconstructing the deck, whether all or some of it, in turn, from the piece(s) of wood pulled, follow things up with using a chainsaw. Since chainsaws are quick & effective, minimal finesse is ever required here, respectively. But too much power behind this, & it could likewise be mayhem for the entire deck.

A reciprocating saw, as well, is a handy tool to have for that reconstruction. Get a sawzall, if you want something less hazardous or aggressive. Use a blade that can cut metal, in conjunction with it, if hitting metal is a danger & risk posed with the chainsaw.

Should I repair or replace my deck?

How to know when to replace your decks
There are things that you can notice to determine when to replace your decks. The red flags for deck replacement are:
    Visible damage
Whether it’s a long crack, split boards, or even big holes, there is a sign that you need to replace that particular part of your board.
    Loose railings
Although loose railings are more of a security alarm, if it’s beyond repair or paired with other aligning issues, then it’s about time for you to replace those decks.
    Deteriorating ledger boards
Ledger is crucial to your decks’ firmness, for they connect the decks to your house. If rotten or termites infested, then you should call a professional immediately.
    Missing or rusted hardware
Rusts and missing pieces will compromise your decks’ firmness, and it’s necessary to replace them.
    Bowing or unsecured boards
If you don’t want to be liable for accidents, you better replace any lifted board on your decks.
    Rotten wood
Rotten wood is an indication that your deck is no longer of quality and needs to be replaced.
    Questionable posts
If the posts holding your decks seem unbalanced or weak, then you should replace them.
    Age of the decks
If the decks are way past the warranty stage, then you should opt to replace them.
What to check when getting new decks
When replacing your decks, you should consider the material that you choose, the contractor to hire, your budget, and maintenance costs to get the best quality available.

    FAQ Source

    Can wood rot be stopped?

If the wood is treated with a fungicide, and, in the case of wet rot, if any source of water exposure is stopped, then it is possible to stop wood rot.
