A patch kit is one of the most effective means by which one may patch up any small holes found in his or her office space. Start by mesh patch (which should usually be self-adhesive, by the way) right into where the hole is at, covering it. Then pull out a drywall knife & use some lightweight joint compound to only further cover it up, applying criss-cross like, in back & forth movements. Feather those edges up nicely so that the compound can better blend with the wall. To do so, simply increase pressure on it.
Angle the drywall knife properly, as well, especially when coming up to those outer edges of where the patch is. This will thin out the joint compound, applying it onto the drywall in the best fashion. You'll then need to give the patch some time to dry up, of course. & once that is done, & you can both touch it & see that it is properly, sufficiently dry, follow up by adding on a second layer of that special compound. Then, sand, until things are quite smooth in that whole region.
& to actually cut the drywall itself, which you may need to do, first identify the drywall's “finish side”. It is the side that it usually a bit lighter in color, sometimes even considerable more so. You should be able to tell the difference between the two sides. With the finish side up, place the drywall down against any flat surface. Mark the cut, snap the board evenly, cut away through that backing paper (with your knife), properly measure, cut the holes with your drywall saw, where needed (cutting at an angle, too) & check everything. The better you can patch & paint, following these instructions, the better the 'finished result' will look.
