Wondering if we can assist you with your base board replacement? Call our team to explain your moulding or trim repair project!

When installing baseboards, it all starts with finding the longest wall, then cutting a scarf joint. So first determine which wall is actually the longest. If you happen to find that a certain piece of baseboard molding is, in fact, actually longer than the wall itself, then just use a single baseboard on that first wall & don't sweat it – just remember to measure very carefully. & then after that, cut the baseboard's ends, one by one, at appx. 90 degrees. This will ensure that they'll run directly into the prependicular walls of each of the sides.

If it's required to have two separate pieces for that first wall, then simply use a scarf joint to get those pieces nice & together. Two 45-degree cuts, across separate boards, can come together as one – & that's one of the whole purposes of the scarf joint. If it's an option, make sure to both cut & then place those two boards in a manner that allows for the scarf joint to more properly get secured to that wall, & at a stud location.

Begin with the two baseboard pieces holding 90 degree cuts (the ones with these at opposite ends, of course). Make that scarf joint right in the center by setting down the initial board & then marking the stud location with its rightful 45-degree angle mark. Grab your miter saw & then cut its end at that same angle, & then sand things until they're smooth. Remember not to oversand things. These are a few solid pieces of advice, so keep them in mind & re-read them when necessary! These are all steps to vital carpentry on that new baseboard installation.

What goes first, floor or baseboards?

If you were to install baseboards before, say, laminate flooring, it would be necessary to tuck the floor panels under the laminate, which would prove especially difficult when adding the last row of panels in. Always install flooring before the baseboards.

Should I paint my trim or replace it?

If the damage is minor, painting is a fine option. For water damaged or warped moulding, it would be best to replace it.
