Repairing a kitchen fan? Open up the fan, take out the grille, & clean up accordingly in that area. It's best to get that area as dust-free as you can, since you now get a chance to go in there & clean it up. Then, note the model number & fully turn off the unit's power, usually found by the electrical circuit box. An electrical tester will help you be certain, also, that the unit's not receiving power of any kind, at the moment.
Unplug the fan right from its main electrical source. Take out the motor plate next, & then the blower (out of the motor shaft). You may need to slide that shaft off or unscrew it. Don't worry too much about damaging the blower as it's relatively inexpensive to get a replacement, but do your best to be careful. Then, put that new fan motor in.
Before you even touch any of the wiring involved, make sure that, still, the main circuit breaker's power is fully off, so that the unit is not getting power in any way. Fasten up the grille plate on the fan, let the power come back on, & then test things out.
