To install a gas water heater, generally speaking, the first step involves draining the tank. Disconnect the water & gus supply, to do this. After you have done so, empty your tank, as you turn on a hot water faucet, so that the proper air can enter into the system. Then, properly disconnect both your water & gas lines. If you're working with galvanized pipes, make the disconnect right at the union fitting. Next, detach the gas exhaust, doing so right from the flue hat.
Do use a nut driver or screwdriver, while on this step, to help you remove those screws. As you take out the old water heater, be prepared to lift – older water heaters weigh, in general, much more than newer ones, simply because there tends to be more sediment build-up around them. Then, you'll want to put that new water heater in place of it, leaving a minimum of 6″in clearance, on every single side, for proper ventilation. Put in the heat trap fittings next, a very crucial step. & then, after that, connect & test your gas supply line, light your pilot, & engage your control knob, turning it all the way on.
