If the beams & posts on your patio cover have seen too much water damage, get started by replacing these out. Toss out the fascia board entirely, if you want to, & go for that nice, open look instead. Yet if rain gutters have been removed, on that fascia prior, you want to consider your actions first.
Also, choose between either a flat or corrugated type of poly carbonate roofing of a translucent kind, which has worked well for many. Take out the patio cover's fascia perimeter entirely & go with a 45 degree or corbel cut that will instead end around the rafter's top, not more than about 1 & 1/2 inches from it, respectively. & if you seek out a more uniformed look, do no less the same to every single rafter tail.
Next, get 2×3 / 2×4 lattice, tightly spaced, in place of the usual plastic waves seen on most patio covers. If yours is an older one, it most likely has this on it as well. Spread some tight-knit nylon meshing right above that lattice, in order to offer even more environment / element protection outdoors.
Also, for greater structural integrity, all in all, put in some post-to-beam knee braces. Only do so after replacing all the dry-rotted posts, in full. Then, paint the patio cover, in a whole new (or the same as previous) color of your choosing. & voila! It's like having a brand-new patio cover altogether…carpentry at its best.
